Devan Dutta is an inquisitive life-long learner who has a deep passion for problem solving using computing technologies. He graduated in 2019 from the University of California Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. His interests include distributed systems, AI, ML model training, large scale data analysis and inference, and Autonomous systems.

Starting from an early age, Devan has been interested in coding. His first foray into programming was in elementary school when he started creating web pages using HTML. By high school, he had immersed himself in Java and Objective-C, culminating in the development of a functional iOS math game for elementary students.

Over the summers of 2015 and 2016, Devan interned at Symantec’s Security Technology & Response Organization in Mountain View, CA, where he worked on a variety of projects, including network packet capture research, Virtualization engines, and a cross-platform network Intrusion Prevention System.  He also served as Lead Intern to work with University Relations and coordinate events for Bay Area Symantec interns.

In the summer of 2017, Devan worked as a Production Engineer Intern within Facebook Ads, where he developed a proprietary solution for automatically detecting and tracking service dependencies necessary for turning up a new datacenter.

In the summer of 2018, Devan interned at LinkedIn, where he developed machine learning models and engines to predict future cloud capacity needs for applications that LinkedIn runs.

In 2019, Devan joined Lyft’s autonomous driving division, Level 5, as a Software Engineer, where he led design and implementation for projects involving Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Mapping and Lyft Routing.

Currently, Devan is working on the future of autonomous drone delivery at Wing, an Alphabet Other Bet.

Devan is a National AP Scholar, Rensselaer Medal Award winner, President’s Education Awards Program student, Rotary Scholar, California Scholarship Federation Lifetime member and scholarship winner, and a winner of the NOKIA International Scholarship and Tuition Services award. In addition, Devan is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and the UCLA chapter of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Computer Science Honor Society.

Beyond his academic awards, he also holds a patent in cloud/containerized app capacity prediction and has 3 pending patents for his work on large-scale autonomous drone delivery simulation and virtual order simulation.

In his spare time, Devan likes to play Ultimate Frisbee and mix electronic music.  He is also a movie aficionado.
